The HL7 Census graph’s vertical axis displays the census values, while the horizontal axis displays the date and time of day. By default, the graph puts your selected date (usually the current date) in the center. A vertical line marks now: the time you opened or refreshed the page. The Now line separates the past from the future.
The graph displays Actual Census as an orange line; this is the real-time census for each point in time. The graph pulls this data from the Registration Import. If you select multiple profiles or locations, the actual census is the sum of all selections.
Budgeted Census displays as a green line. This line is not displayed unless there is data in the budget table. You can enter budget table data in Staff Manager Client.
If you select several profiles or locations, the budgeted census is the sum of the selections. If you select a part of any profile, the graph displays the budgeted census as a dashed green line.
Clairvia Web calculates the Average Census by day of week and time of day for the previous six weeks. The graph displays average census as a black line. Demand Manager must have at least six full weeks of data to display average census.
If you select several profiles or locations, the average census shown is the average of all selections.
The Capacity Census is a red line; it displays the patient capacity of the selected profile. This line is not displayed unless there is capacity data in the budget table. You can enter this data in Staff Manager Client.
If you select several profiles or locations, the capacity census is the sum of the selections. If you select a part of any profile, the graph displays the capacity census as a dashed red line.
Staffing Decision Points are displayed as navy blue triangles. Each decision point has a label in 24-hour time; for example, the label 0700 - 1500 means 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. These times match the start and end times of the partitions using the census for future staffing decisions.
The bottom of the triangle points to the census value at the staffing decision point. The Registration Import maintains this census at the defined time used for projected staffing. A profile’s staffing decision points come from the HL7 Setup tab of the Staff Manager Administrator Edit Profile dialog box. The graph displays them in the Actual Census line.
Staff Manager stores census data at the profile level. Because of this, the graph only displays staffing decision point data when you select all the locations in a profile. For example, if the 6N MedSurg profile has locations A, B, and C, and you select only A and B, the graph will not show any staffing decision point values. The census data is not complete without location C. If you select several profiles, the graph will not display the staffing decision points unless the profiles all use the same points.
A delay in getting ADT events can cause a mismatch between the staffing decision point census and the actual census. For example, assume the staffing decision point census at 1:00 p.m. is 30. The Registration Import gets an admission at 1:02 p.m., increasing the actual census to 31; however, the effective time of the admission is 12:58 p.m., making the actual census 31 two minutes before the staffing decision point. The graph displays the 1:00 p.m. decision point census as 30 and the actual census as 31. The HL7 Census graph left the 1:00 p.m. decision point census at 30 because that was the data used for staffing decisions.
The HL7 Census relies on the receipt of patient information from your registration application. The ADT Status Indicator shows you how the ADT interface is performing. You should point your cursor at the ADT symbol to see when Staff Manager last received and updated ADT data. See The ADT Status Indicator on the HL7 Census Page for more information.
